St. Petersburg Plans to Expand Cooperation with African Countries

Preparations for the Second Russia–Africa Summit and Economic and Humanitarian Forum are being made by the Russian regions on a regular basis. The plans and objectives set by the first Russia–Africa Summit and Economic Forum are being implemented, and negotiations with African countries on new joint projects are underway.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov informed the Organizing Committee of the Second Russia–Africa Summit and other events in the Russia–Africa format to be held in the Russian Federation in 2023 about the work that the city is doing in this area:
“St. Petersburg intends to develop cooperation with African countries on a wide range of issues. Among the most promising areas is the design and construction of water supply and wastewater treatment facilities. This is important for many African countries, and we have a lot of experience in this area. Traditionally, young people from African countries come to study in our country. In the academic year 2022/2023, we will have 2,580 African students studying in our universities. This is 7.27% of all foreign students. We are also considering holding joint cultural and sporting events with Alexandria, our sister city in Egypt. On the sidelines of the Russia–Africa Summit, we plan to sign a roadmap,” noted Governor Beglov.
In addition, on the sidelines of the Summit and the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, agreements are planned to be signed on developing cooperation in tourism with relevant organizations in Morocco, Kenya, Namibia, Egypt, Tunisia, and Angola in terms of tourism education. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is preparing a draft agreement with the creative cities of South Africa (Cape Town, Durban, and Hermanus) and Benin (Bohicon).
The Second Russia–Africa Summit and Economic and Humanitarian Forum will take place in St. Petersburg from 26 to 29 July.
