EXHIBITION "HIGHLIGHTS OF RUSSIA'S SCIENTIFIC ENDEAVORS IN AFRICA"

This exhibition is dedicated to the history of Africa’s scientific development: the portraits display a brilliant assemblage of prominent Russian researchers on the African continent – Yegor Kovalevsky, Lev Tsenkovsky, Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay, Wilhelm Junker, and Nikolay Vavilov.
Most of the exhibition is dedicated to a little-known expedition to Ethiopia by Nikolay Gumilyov in 1913: unique historical documentary photographs from the collection of the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera) in St. Petersburg. The photos depict the nature and everyday life of Africa and convey the spirit of the times, while also retaining their relevance and modernity and emphasizing the peaceful nature of relations between Russia and the countries and peoples of the African continent. Visitors can follow the path through Abyssinia as they discover the aesthetics of African culture, look at ancient lands, and transport themselves more than a century back in time.
The exhibition’s mission is to show the centuries-old traditions of cultural and scientific interaction between Russia and the countries of the African continent.

TREE OF FRIENDSHIP BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Tree of Friendship botanical garden is a scientific department of the All-Russian Research Institute for Floriculture and Subtropical Plants. This is a unique museum of nature and a striking symbol of friendship.
The crown of the Tree of Friendship grew from buds grafted by representatives of 173 countries of the world. These memorial grafts were carried out by the heads of many governments, prominent societal and political figures and representatives of the sciences, culture and art and astronauts and athletes from all over the world.

MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF THE RESORT CITY OF SOCHI

Spread out across 14 rooms and 700 square metres, this museum offers visitors the opportunity to explore this mysterious part of the Black Sea Coast in the Caucasus. With more than 4,000 exhibits, it provides an impressive insight into the nature and history of the region, from prehistoric times to the present day. Among the museum’s highlights is its archaeological collection, which includes tools used in ancient times, gold and silver jewellery, Byzantine coins and rarities from early Christianity (6–8th centuries). Most of these exhibits were found during archaeological expeditions which took place in the run up to the Winter Olympics in 2014. The Humanity and Space exhibition features items used by cosmonauts, including space suits, food products, and a truly unique exhibit – the Soyuz 9 re-entry capsule.

The Sochi Museum of Sporting Glory was opened on 8 June 2010, and today contains over 300 exhibits. Its collections are dedicated to the city’s sporting history, the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2014, and other international sporting competitions, including the football World Cup hosted by Russia in 2018. The museum also celebrates the city’s famous athletes and coaches, including Olympic champions and medallists Vladimir Kondra, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Alexey Voyevoda, among others.

Among Sochi Art Museum’s many highlights is an interactive exhibition entitled multimedia wonders, which is not only proving popular with locals, but a great many visitors to the city, too.
The numerous multimedia exhibits include a large spherical screen resembling an enormous globe; two holographic pyramids displaying 3D images of items belonging to the museum and the Museum of the History of the Resort city of Sochi; a 5D cinema; a “space travel cockpit”; and the renowned immersive art experience.
Stereo screens have been installed on the walls throughout the exhibition hall, depicting fine art masterpieces in 3D. Visitors have the opportunity to experience these famous works, and all without having to wear 3D glasses.

TOUR OF SIRIUS SCIENCE AND ART PARK

Themed tour of the Smart City exhibition.
The tour focuses on the concept of a smart city, the technologies that make large cities comfortable and convenient for their residents, as well as the specific problems of smart cities and their solutions, which are applied today in the world’s largest and most developed cities.
In the course of the tour, visitors may get acquainted with modern technological solutions in education, health, transport and leisure, with Moscow as an example. They are involved in a creative search for solutions to the problems facing the city, and find ways to solve them.
During the tour, visitors will have a chance to learn about:
- World’s best smart cities: Singapore, London, Shanghai, Barcelona, Moscow, New York, Toronto, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney.
- IT in a big city: Big Data, blockchain, neural networks, how they are used in city management – the future is near;
- Modern transport systems: from buses and metro to alternative transport systems;
- Health, education and leisure of city residents: how modern technologies are changing the social sphere of a big city;
- Urban economy, resource accounting and technological transport in a smart city;
- Technologies of relations between citizens and government in a smart city, digital services.
