Russian-African Agenda Projects to Be Presented at SPIEF

At SPIEF, the Roscongress Foundation will talk about the development of Russian-African relations and the programme to promote multilateral formats of work on the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.

Among the projects to be organized in 2024: the international conference ‘Global Challenges to Food Security’ to be held on 3–4 October 2024 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The business programme will include panel sessions on technologies in agriculture, transport and logistics chains for the needs of the agro-industrial complex, training for the agricultural sector, as well as prospects and risks of financing projects in the field of agriculture and technologies for food production and organization of school feeding systems. Special attention will be paid to the ‘Green Standard’ for ‘clean’ agricultural products. The central event of the business programme will be the plenary session entitled ‘A Systemic Approach to Ensuring Food Sovereignty in Africa.’

‘The conference to be held in Addis Ababa in October will raise topical issues of observance of food sovereignty and the threat of its violation. Special attention will be paid to joint projects of our country with African partners. I am confident that cooperation between Russia and Africa in continuation of the African track events held in Russia over the past five years will contribute to further strengthening of strategic cooperation with African partners,’ said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.

The First Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, which will be held in November 2024 at the Sirius University of the federal territory of Sirius, will also be presented at SPIEF. This new dialogue format will meet on a regular basis between Russian-African summits. The programme will include round tables and panel discussions on the most pressing topics on the Russian-African agenda. A separate thematic area will be devoted to discussing Russia's humanitarian cooperation with African partners, with a focus on cooperation in education and healthcare.

Another project to be presented at the stand of Russian-African co-operation will be the African Energy Week. AEW will be held from 4 to 8 November 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The event, whose strategic partner is the Roscongress Foundation, will be held under the motto ‘Invest in Africa's Energy’. This year's Forum will once again be a meeting place for African presidents, ministers and politicians to meet with regional and foreign investors. The event will take the format of an interactive multi-format exhibition and business event that will bring together international and African players in the energy sector.

This year's AEW programme is a dynamic palette of opportunities highlighting the key role of oil and gas in Africa's energy landscape. Participants will be treated to a deep dive into investment prospects and an exploration of high-value businesses and regulatory frameworks. A range of projects, from innovative renewable energy initiatives to strategic oil development projects, will be examined in great detail, setting the stage for discussions on approaches to sustainable development not only for the African continent, but for the entire planet.

On 6 June, as part of the business programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Russia–Africa Business Dialogue will take place: an informative and engaging exchange of views on a wide range of topics of strategic cooperation between Russia and African countries. SPIEF will once again become a platform for checking the clock on promising projects between Russian and African partners, which the parties are implementing as a follow-up to the second Russia–Africa Summit.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held from 5 to 8 June 2024.

“We highly value the results of our joint work at the summit. I am sure the achieved results are creating a good foundation for further deepening the Russia-Africa partnership in the interests of our nations’ prosperity and wellbeing.”

President of the Russian Federation
Vladimir Putin

The Russia–Africa Summit, which is taking place in Sochi on 23–24 October 2019, encapsulates the historically friendly relations between the African continent and the Russian Federation. This Summit carries great significance as it is the first of its kind to emerge during a period of major global and international transformations. In response to the aspirations of the people it is representing, the Summit intends to build a comprehensive framework for expanding Russian–African relations into broader horizons of joint cooperation across different fields.

The African nations and Russia share a common understanding of international relations, based on the principles of respect for the rule of international law, equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Both sides affirm their commitment to support multilateral actions to oppose new international threats, be they terrorism and extremism in all their forms, or declining growth rates. The two sides share a firm conviction regarding the importance of developing trade flows and supporting mutual investment in such a way as to ensure security, peace and development for the African and Russian people.

African countries have huge potential and opportunities that will allow them, once efforts to streamline their economies have been achieved, to emerge as real global players. In recent years, the nations of this continent have achieved major successes spanning the political, economic, social and administrative spheres. Africa has flourished in terms of growth over the past decade, reaching a continent-wide growth rate of 3.55% in 2018.

The African Union Summit, which was held in Niger in July 2019, continued the efforts of the African countries and saw the African Continental Free Trade Agreement come into force, along with its operational instruments. The agreement is one of the key objectives of Agenda 2063, an African development strategy that has been created to address the African people’s desire for prosperity and decent living standards.

These successes are opening up wide-ranging prospects for cooperation between African countries and the Russian Federation, and confirm the determination of African governments and their people to cooperate with multiple partners in order to establish mutually beneficial relations.

With this in mind, we express our hopes that the Russia–Africa Summit will help in the establishment of constructive strategic relations, based on partnership between two sides across various fields, and in the service of fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the African people and their friends in Russia.
